Indian Mangoes are a rarity

We at www.canada.farmfreshmango.com are bounded by the short Indian Mango season. There is a lot of frantic activity over 3 to 4 months when the wonderful king of fruit is available, and then it all disappears suddenly till the spring of next year.

The mango season in India starts some time in the month of April and ends in July. There are hundreds of varieties of mangoes in India, and each mango variety has its own season as well. For example the season starts early for Alphonso and Banginapalli and gradually progresses as other varieties join the summer party. India is a vast country and each state has got its own favorite variety of mango. For example the most popular variety Alphonso is quite popular in northern states than the southern states. Banginapalli variety is quite popular in Telugu speaking states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Whereas Malgoba is utterly famous in Tamil nadu and Karnataka, Kesar is famous in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The season being so short, mangoes are a rarity and everyone looks forward to the beginning of summer so they can enjoy the fruit. As the spring turns to summer, the koels (Cuckoo) start singing in the mango orchards and that joyous atmosphere permeates the air along with the fragrance of fruits and leaves. People say that the bird is calling out plaintively for the rain, to end the sweltering summer heat. But this bad for us because the season abruptly ends as the monsoon rains start to fall over the plains and mountains of India.
